
Rock Cats Defeats Binghamton

New Britain, CT - Whit Robbins pounded out four hits and three RBI to lead a 19-hit attack as the Rock Cats rolled to a 15-7 win over Binghamton in front of a standing-room only crowd of 7,286 on Sunday afternoon. It was the fourth consecutive sellout at the stadium this weekend and the ninth on the season.
Robbins was one of seven Rock Cats who turned in multi-hit performances at the plate. Erik Lis and Brandon Roberts each had three hits apiece. Lis also scored three runs and knocked in three more.
Binghamton jumped on Rock Cats starter Ryan Mullins for three runs in the first inning. Mullins plunked leadoff batter Emmanuel Garcia with the first pitch of the game. Nick Evans followed with a one-out walk before Lucas Duda singled to left field to score Garcia for a 1-0 lead. Shawn Bowman then delivered a two-run home run to center field.
Rene Tosoni put the Rock Cats on the board with a solo shot to right field to leadoff the second inning. Roberts repeated the act for the âCats in the third with a leadoff shot to right field to cut the B-Mets' lead to 3-2. Erik Lis' single later in the inning knocked in Robbins, who reached base on a single, to tie the game. Matt Moses (3 RBI) delivered an RBI single to Lis and put the Rock Cats on top, 4-3.
Josh Petersen singled to left field to score Garcia in the top of the fourth to tie the game again. The Rock Cats answered back big time in the bottom of the inning, though, as the Rock Cats scored six runs. Roberts drew a leadoff walk and Brian Dinkelman and Danny Vaelencia followed with base hits to load the bases. Robbins delivered a two-run single to right field that put the Rock Cats back on top, 6-4 and knocked B-Mets' starter Jose Sanchez out of the game. Lis greeted reliever Eric Brown with a double to right field that scored Valencia. Tosoni was plunked with a pitch to load the bases before Moses drew a walk and forced in another run. Yancarlos Ortiz tacked on two more run with a double to right field.
In the bottom of the fifth, The Rock Cats struck for four more runs. Dinkelman and Valencia reached base on consecutive one-out walks before Nick Abel replaced Brown, who was ejected from the game. Robbins doubled to right field to knock in Dinkelman. Lis and Moses each had an RBI single in the inning with an RBI double by Tosoni sandwiched in between.
Mullins (3-6) scattered seven hits while allowing five runs over six innings. Sanchez (1-6) suffered the loss after being hammered for eight runs on 10 hits through 3 1/3 innings.
