June 26, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Ryan Dease pitched seven scoreless innings, Curtis Terry hit a 2-run homer, and the Indians defeated the Vancouver Canadians 6-0 to earn their first series win of the season on Smokey Bear Night presented by Living Water Lawn & Tree Care, Wildland Firefighters, KEY 101, and 1510 KGA NW Sports Talk.
The first inning was a sign of things to come. Ryan Dease (W, 2-0) retired the side on eight pitches, all of them strikes, including two punch outs. He became the first Indians' starter to pitch into the seventh inning this season due to his efficiency on the mound. Dease pounded the strike zone all night, throwing 57 of his 78 pitches for strikes and allowing no walks. He scattered four hits in seven scoreless innings, striking out five en route to his second win of the season.
Spokane's offense gave Dease all the support he needed. Isaias Quiroz led off the bottom of the third with a double and advanced to third on a balk. Miguel Aparicio drove him in with a sacrifice fly to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.
Starling Joseph continued his hot start at home by leading off the fourth with a double. Joseph has a hit in six of his seven games at Avista Stadium this season. Following a Diosbel Arias base hit and stolen base, Kevin Mendoza delivered a 2-run bloop single to center field to extend the Indians' lead, 3-0.
In the sixth, Curtis Terry stepped up and launched a monster 2-run shot to left field, his league leading fourth of the year. His 10 RBI on the season leads all Indians' hitters.
Obie Ricumstrict completed Spokane's balanced offensive attack with an RBI knock of his own in the bottom of the eighth. All nine Spokane hitters ended the night with at least one hit.
Sean Chandler pitched two scoreless innings in relief to secure the series win and send the 3,272 in attendance at Avista Stadium home happy.
