De La Cruz, Lewis Lead Revs To 6-1 Victory In Lancaster

Luis De La Cruz enjoyed a big night at the plate and Rommie Lewis earned his second win in as many starts as the York Revolution nabbed a 6-1 series-opening victory in Lancaster against the Barnstormers on Tuesday night, in front of 3,469 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The win is York's first of the season on the road and snaps an overall five-game losing streak. The Revs will go for back-to-back victories as the series continues on Wednesday night.

Down 1-0 in the fourth, the Revs pieced together a big two-out rally to jump in front. Johan Limonta kept the inning alive with a double to right-center, and De La Cruz followed with a first pitch double down the right field line, scoring Limonta to tie the game. Willie Cabrera then ripped an RBI single to left, and advanced all the way to third as left fielder Kevin Rivers' throw skipped past home plate, resulting in an error. Brandon Boggs followed with an RBI single to right, as York suddenly held a 3-1 lead. The four consecutive hits marked a season-best.

De La Cruz added a two-run homer down the left field line, his first with York, on a 3-0 green light with two outs in the sixth. The York catcher then tacked on one more with an RBI single to right field in the top of the eighth.

De La Cruz finished the night 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and four RBI. The three hits and two extra-base hits match a season-high for a Revs batter, while the four RBI and seven total bases establish season-bests.

Lewis (2-0) won his second start in as many tries, continuing to make the transition from the closer's role that he held last season. The lefty allowed just one run on five hits over five innings, walked one, and struck out five. He has now allowed just one earned run in 10.0 innings over the course of his two starts.

Shawn Teufel tossed two no-hit innings in relief. The lefty issued a walk in each inning, but promptly rolled double plays both times.

Julio DePaula and Josh Judy followed with 1-2-3 innings to finish off the victory.

Lancaster scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third on a two-out, two-strike RBI single to left by Blake Gailen who picked up his league-leading ninth RBI of the year. It marked the eighth time in 11 games for the Revs that the opponent has scored first, but the Revs would claim their third comeback win out of four victories on the season.

The Revs threatened in the top of the first, loading the bases on two-out singles by Eric Patterson and Andres Perez (2-for-4) and a walk to Brandon Jones, but Bryan Pounds hit a sharp ground ball right at Yusuke Kajimoto for an inning-ending force. The fourth inning outburst finally snapped a 13-inning scoreless streak for the York offense.

Lancaster lefty Dan Osterbrock (0-1) took the loss, charged with three runs on six hits over four innings.

Notes: All six of York's runs and eight of York's nine hits came with two outs. York now leads this season's "War of the Roses" series, 3-2. Revs pitchers held Lancaster to five hits, their fewest hits allowed in a game this season. Kajimoto (3-for-4) had three of his team's five hits out of the leadoff spot, after entering the game just 5-for-43. York righty Corey Thurman (0-1, 6.00) faces Lancaster's Shunsuke Watanabe who makes his season debut on Wednesday night with first pitch set for 7 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
