De La Cruz Homers in Ninth to Give Claws 4-3 Win

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Carlos De La Cruz's home run in the top of the ninth inning gave the BlueClaws a 4-3 win over Augusta on Thursday night at SRP Park.

De La Cruz's home run was his sixth of the year, five of which have come since July 12th. It gave the BlueClaws their fourth win, all since June 13th, in which they trailed entering the ninth inning.

Lakewood (17-21/46-62) has split the first two games of the series with the GreenJackets (23-17/59-49). Manuel Silva (4-4) earned the win with four scoreless innings in relief. Matt Seelinger(0-3), who gave up De La Cruz's home run, took the loss.

The BlueClaws got a run in the first inning on a throwing error on catcher Andres Angulo allowing McCarthy Tatum to score. Augusta would tie the game in the bottom of the first on a SAC fly from Diego Rincones.

The GreenJackets rallied to take the lead in the fifth. Angulo's groundout tied the game. Then with two outs, Anyeseber Sivira doubled and came in to score on a base hit by Ismael Mungia to give Augusta a 3-2 lead.

BlueClaws starter Ethan Lindow was charged with three runs in five innings, only the second time since May 23rd he's allowed more than two earned runs in a game.

Augusta starter Keaton Winn gave up two runs, one earned, over 6.2 innings of work.

Garcia and De La Cruz each had two hits for the BlueClaws.

The teams finish their series on Friday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Kevin Gowdy starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Adam Oller (4-4).
