Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, OH - Despite the Dayton Gems carrying a one goal lead into the third period, the Evansville IceMen would ultimately score four straight unanswered goals to claim a 4-1 win over Dayton on Sunday afternoon on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena. Scoring for the Gems was #14 David Nimmo.

After a scoreless first period, the Gems would hit their stride just :33 into the second frame, as recently acquired forward David Nimmo blasted in his second goal in a Gems sweater off assists from Nic Polaski and Chad Langlais. Gems netminder would turn aside quality IceMen shots throughout the period to lead his team into the second intermission ahead 1-0. Shots after forty minutes favored the IceMen 23-17.

Despite the lead and the hometown crowd's enthusiasm, key lapses would force the Gems to again watch their lead erased off a tying goal at the 8:56 mark, before the visiting IceMen struck three more times including a powerplay goal at 17:30 and caped off with an empty netter with :55 left in regulation, to shut down the Gems offense on the way to their 4-1 victory. Shots in the third favored Evansville 19-12, and they would go on to outshoot Dayton 42-29 after a full sixty minutes of hockey. Dayton went 0-3 on the powerplay, while the IceMen finished 1-3 with the man advantage.

With the loss, the Gems finish the three game weekend winless, ad extend their streak to 0-4-1 in their last five attempts. The Gems also fall to 0-4-2 this season against the IceMen. With the win, Evansville earns their 20th win of the year, and improve their record to 20-9-3.
