Bloomington Blaze News Release
BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, defeated the streaking Quad City Mallards for the second straight time with 2-1 victory on Sunday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The Blaze opened the scoring with 14:04 remaining in the opening period when Jordy Trottier took a pass at the right post and beat Mallard goaltender David Brown. Vladimir Nikiforov and Jason Dale assisted. Trottier lit the lamp again with 4:22 left in the opening frame by placing a rebound in from right of the net, with assists from Nikiforov and Craig Cescon.
The goal lights remained dark until 3:13 left in regulation when Eric Giosa connected from the right wing, but the Blaze withstood a furious extra-attacker flurry in the final minute to preserve the win.
Zane Kalemba recorded 24 saves for the Blaze in net to improve to 10-11-1. David Brown took the loss with 26 saves. The Blaze were 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Mallards came up empty in three man-advantages. The Mallards ended a three-game winning streak and lost for only the second time in their last 10 games.
The Blaze face the Missouri Mavericks in a home-and-home set this Friday and Saturday, beginning with Friday's 7:05 p.m. face-off at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Friday's game is another Pepsi Date Night, when fans bringing a Pepsi product to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office when buying a reserved seat ticket receive a second ticket free, and combo meals are buy-one-get-one.
