BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (January 15, 2012) - Jordy Trottier scored a pair of first period goals and Zane Kalemba made 24 saves as the host Bloomington Blaze edged the Quad City Mallards 2-1 Sunday.
Trottier converted Vladimir Nikiforov's centering pass just under six minutes into the game to give the Blaze a 1-0 lead. Trottier provided what proved to be the game winning goal by pouncing on a rebound at 15:38 of the first period.
Kalemba held the Mallards off the scoreboard until Quad City's Eric Giosa finally buried the puck from the right wing circle with 3:13 remaining in the third period. The Mallards pulled goaltender David Brown for an extra attacker in the final minute, but could not generate a late equalizer.
