Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Cedar Rapids Kernels (affiliate of the Minnesota Twins) in the fourth game of a six-game series. This series matches the two division leaders in the Midwest League.

Current and Season Series vs. Cedar Rapids: Dayton 2, Cedar Rapids 1.

Dragons in the Standings: Dayton is in first place in the MWL East Division, three and one-half games ahead of Great Lakes with seven games to play in the first half season. The final day of the first half is June 23. The Dragons "magic number" is four to eliminate Great Lakes, and one to eliminate Lake County.

Historical Perspective: The Dragons have earned two first half division titles in their 21 seasons, winning the first half East Division title in 2001 and again in 2007. Their last second half division title came in 2011.

Best Ever: The Dragons record of 38-21 is the best in franchise history through the first 59 games of a season. The previous best over the first 59 games was 37-22 in 2007. The Dragons winning percentage of .644 is seventh best in Minor League Baseball (120 teams).

Last Game: Thursday: Dragons 10, Cedar Rapids 7. Allan Cerda hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead a 14-hit Dayton attack. Justice Thompson also had a home run while Mat Nelson had three hits including an RBI double. Jose Torres tied a Dragons club record set by many with three stolen bases in the game. For the second time in three games, the Dragons scored four runs in the first inning (season high). The Dragons went 6 for 13 with men in scoring position after struggling in those situations recently. They had batted .159 (14 for 88) with men in scoring position over the previous seven games.

Team Notes

Dayton is second in the MWL in home runs with 70 (three behind Cedar Rapids). The Dragons lead the league in slugging percentage at .427.

The Dragons have played 10 series, winning eight, splitting one, and losing one.

Player Notes

Elly De La Cruz (seventh youngest position player in the league with at least 100 AB) over his last 19 games is batting .367 with six home runs. De La Cruz is second in the MWL in extra base hits (30), second in batting average (.304), second in slugging percentage (.594), second in hits (63), second in runs scored (40), third in RBI (40), tied for fourth in home runs (12), and sixth in stolen bases (17).

Allan Cerda over his last 14 games is batting .326 with six home runs. Cerda is tied for fourth in the league in home runs (12) and sixth in slugging percentage (.529) and tied for sixth in extra base hits (25).

Joe Boyle has an earned run average of 0.84 and opponent's batting average of .075 on the year, but he is five innings short of having the minimum number of innings to qualify for the league lead.

Connor Phillips is first in the MWL lead in strikeouts with 84 and first in opponent batting average (.171). Since April 28, Phillips has made eight starts, posting a 2.35 ERA (46 IP, 26 H, 14 R, 12 ER, 17 BB, 63 SO).

Garrett Wolforth in June is batting .333 in 10 games, going 12 for 36 with three home runs, 14 RBI, two doubles, and a triple.

Nick Quintana over his last 17 games is batting .316 with 15 RBI.

Make-Up Game: The Dragons will host Lake County in a make-up doubleheader on Wednesday, June 22. First game starts at 5:35 p.m. This is the result of a rain-out on May 6.
