Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Over 400 miles away from Beloit, the Sky Carp had the loudest fans in the ballpark on Thursday night at Classic Park.
Approximately 45 friends and family members of starting pitcher Pat Monteverde made the trip up from his native Pittsburgh to watch the crafty lefty toss 6 shutout innings on the way to a 3-1 win in 10 innings for Beloit over Lake County.
While Monteverde was dialed in, his counterpart, Mason Hickman was as well.
Hickman set Beloit down in order his first time through the lineup and worked 5 scoreless, 1-hit innings.
Monteverde outlasted Hickman by a frame, walking none and striking out 8 in his 6 innings of work.
Both offenses failed to convert on opportunities, as Beloit stranded the bases loaded in the 4th and left runners on the corners in the 6th, and the game went to extras with no score.
In the top of the 10th Beloit cracked Lake County closer Cade Smith to push in all three of their runs; 1 on an RBI single from Kyler Castillo and 2 on a 2-RBI single from Dalvy Rosario.
In the bottom half, Chandler Jozwiak allowed an RBI double to Alexfri Planez, which scored the automatic runner from second to make it 3-1. The hard throwing lefty bounced back after a walk, retiring three straight batters to close the contest.
With the win, the Sky Carp pull ahead in the series, 2 games to 1, and improve their record to 27-32 on the campaign.
Beloit will have the opportunity to clinch at least a split tomorrow at 7:00 ET with lefty Dax Fulton on the mound. Fans can listen to the action for free on the Big Radio app.
