Lake County Captains News Release
(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (31-29) lost their third of four games played in this week's series against the Beloit Sky Carp (28-32) by a final score of 11-1 on a sunny Friday night at Classic Park.
The Sky Carp started the scoring early, as second baseman Cody Morissette hit a leadoff home run on the second pitch of the night, giving Beloit a 1-0 lead.
Captains starting pitcher Rodney Boone, who made his first home start with Lake County, would retire the next six Sky Carp hitters faced. Boone allowed five earned runs, four hits, four walks, but threw four strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.
In the bottom of the second, Captains right fielder Alexfri Planez hit a solo home run to tie the game at one apiece. This was Planez's fifth home run, and first solo home run, of the season.
From there, the Sky Carp would score 10 unanswered runs, including a combined eight in innings three through five. A Kyler Castillo single and Marcus Chiu walk set up Morissette for an RBI single, his second hit of the night, which made the score 2-1 in favor of Beloit.
Morissette's career night continued, as his two-run home run in the top of the fifth made it 9-1 Sky Carp. Later, in his next at-bat, the second baseman hit his third home run of the night to extend the Sky Carp's lead to 10-1. Morissette finished the game 4-6 with three home runs and six RBI.
For Lake County, a single from second baseman Aaron Bracho was the team's only other hit of the night. The Captains also saw relief appearances from pitchers Alaska Abney, Raymond Burgos, and Trey Benton, who totaled a combined six strikeouts.
Beloit's starting pitcher Dax Fulton, allowed two hits, one run (earned), and one walk, while throwing seven strikeouts.
Game five of the series is tomorrow night, Saturday, June 18, with first pitch at 7:00 PM. Tomorrow is Marvel Defenders of the Diamond Night, which will feature a special appearance from The Incredible Hulk, and Hulk-themed jerseys worn by the Captains.
