Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - Cedar Rapids catcher Kyle Schmidt has been transferred to the Wichita Wind Surge. In a corresponding move, catcher Frank Nigro has been transferred to the Kernels from Minnesota's FCL affiliate. The Kernels' roster still stands at 28 active players with today's transactions.
Schmidt went 0-for-3 with a walk in his lone start for Cedar Rapids after joining the club from Wichita on Monday.
Nigro will make his full-season debut with the Kernels after joining the Twins organization as a minor league free agent in 2021. A two-time All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference selection at Wilmington University, Nigro has played 18 games across two seasons in the FCL, throwing out 25% of attempted basestealers. In his final season at Wilmington in 2019, he batted .283 with 31 RBI and threw out 15 runners.
