Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the West Michigan Whitecaps (affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) in the second game of a three-game series. This is game five of a 13-game, 14-day road trip for the Dragons. Dragons Record to Date on the Trip: 1-3.
Last Game: Saturday: West Michigan 4, Dayton 1. Three West Michigan pitchers combined to allow just five hits while striking out 12. Jonathan India's sixth inning home run, his first with the Dragons, accounted for the team's only score of the night. West Michigan scored all four of their runs over the first three innings. Brock Deatherage had a two-run home run for West Michigan.
Playoff Chase: The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible). The Dragons currently are third in the Second Half race, one-half game behind #2 seed Fort Wayne.
2018 Team Notes
The Dragons have lost three straight games and six of their last eight. They are four games under .500 in the second half for the first time since starting the half with four straight losses. They will need a win today to avoid going five games under the .500 mark for the first time in the half.
The Dragons have gone 9 for 62 (.145) at the plate as a team over the last two nights after batting .342 (64 for 187) as a team over their previous five games. They batted .324 in the four-game series with Lansing ending Tuesday, their highest average in a series in 2018. The Dragons had not hit .300 or higher in any series since May 18-20 vs. Great Lakes, when they hit .320. They hit .278 in the series at Fort Wayne that ended Friday.
The Dragons are batting .329 with men in scoring position over the last seven games, going 24 for 73.
2018 Individual Notes
Alejo Lopez over his last 19 games: 26 for 68, .382, to raise his average from .247 to .310. He has an eight-game hitting streak, going 14 for 34 (.412).
Hendrik Clementina over his last seven games: 10 for 27 (.370) with three home runs, three doubles, and seven RBI.
Jose Garcia over his last eight games: 12 for 34, .353, to raise his average from .221 to .233. He is batting .272 in the second half after hitting .202 in the first half.
J.D. Williams over his last six games: 9 for 22, .409, to raise his average from .203 to .250.
Transactions: Starting pitcher Hunter Greene has been placed on this disabled list with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He will not pitch for Dayton again in 2018. Starting pitcher Jared Solomon has been promoted to Dayton from Billings to replace Greene in the rotation.
