Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - An offensive slugfest was decided in the eighth inning as the Beloit Snappers (58-52) took game two of a three-game series 10-7 against the Cedar Rapids Kernels (59-53) Sunday afternoon from Perfect Game Field.
The Snappers, trailing the Kernels 6-3 going into the eighth, exploded for seven runs to take a 10-6 lead. Overall, the Snappers batted around with six hits, five runs, three doubles, two walks and one home run from Lazaro Armenteros who led off the inning.
Logan Farrar, en route to a 3-for-5 day, provided his two RBI on the day in the eighth on a double that scored Austin Beck and Hunter Hargrove. One pitch later, Jack Meggs hit his second of two doubles to score Farrar and take a 7-6 lead. Meggs would also go 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Jesus Lage singled home Meggs, Armenteros was hit with the bases loaded and Beck would hit a sac fly. By the end of the eighth, the Snappers were on top 10-6.
The Snappers scored all their runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Trailing 3-0 in the seventh, Jack Meggs hit his first double, a ground-rule double, to score Hunter Hargrove. Farrar would move to third on the hit and score on a wild pitch moments later. Lage singled home Meggs and evened up the score 3-3.
The Snappers battled back from two separate three-run deficits, the second one coming after the seventh inning when the Kernels scored three to break a 3-3 tie. Akil Baddoo singled in Jacob Pearson and Ben Rodriguez scored Gabriel Maciel and Michael Davis on a two-RBI single and it was 6-3 Kernels.
The Snappers trailed 3-0 after the fifth inning as the Kernels scored a single run in the second, fourth and fifth innings. It was just the Snappers 21st win of the season when the opponent scores first.
After relieving Snappers starter Mitchell Jordan, Heath Bowers would pitch the sixth and seventh innings and allow five hits and three runs. He would get the win, his sixth of the season.
Snappers reliever Jesus Zambrano would relieve Joseph Camacho in the ninth and get the final two outs of the game on a 6-4-3 double-play. It would be Zambrano's fifth save of the season.
The Snappers have now taken the first two of this three-game set with Cedar Rapids. Beloit has now won seven of their last 10 series. Their 13 hits gave them 10 or more hits in 15 of their last 24 games.
Game three of this three-game series will pick back up at 12:05 in the afternoon tomorrow. Finishing it off for the Snappers will be right-hander Brady Feigl (0-0, 0.00). It will be the first appearance as a Snapper for Feigl, a fifth-round pick in this year's draft, who has accumulated a 1-1, 1.35 record in 8 games with Vermont this season.
Opposing Feigl will be right-hander Edwar Colina (5-3, 2.93).
