Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- For the second straight game, the Grand Prairie AirHogs got a strong start from a professional debutant, as Lance Day followed up Teddy Nowell's outing on Monday with six innings of two-run, four-hit baseball, leading the AirHogs to an 8-2 win over the Laredo Lemurs on Tuesday at QuikTrip Park.

Day (1-0) retired the first 11 batters of his professional career before walking Javier Brito with two outs in the fourth, and did not allow a hit until Palmer Karr's solo home run with one out in the fifth. By then, the AirHogs (15-10) had broken the game open against Mark Haynes (1-1), who did not allow a hit until two outs in the third.

Bryan Frichter's sacrifice fly that inning opened the scoring, but the floodgates came open an inning later. Brian Myrow hit his third home run of the season on the first pitch of the bottom of the third, and after a walk and an error, Trent Lockwood knocked in a run with a base hit, and David Thomas followed with two more on a single two batters later. Yasutsugu Nishimoto added another RBI hit, and Myrow finished the damage with an RBI double to put Grand Prairie up 7-0.

Day gave up two hits to start the seventh, and the rookie from UT-Arlington was pulled in favor of Griffin Bailey, allowing four hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Ernie Banks hit a one-out single to pull the Lemurs (10-15) to within five, but Bailey started a double play to end that inning and then pitched a 1-2-3 eighth.

Grand Prairie got one more run on back-to-back doubles to start the eighth from Chris McMurray and Thomas, and Ronnie Morales came on to pitch a perfect ninth to finish off the AirHogs' fourth straight win, equaling their season high.

Notes: The power went out at QuikTrip Park before the ninth inning, leading to a 14-minute delay... Myrow and Thomas each had three hits...The eight runs matched the AirHogs' season high at home this season, equaling the eight they scored against El Paso on May 22...The AirHogs are now a season-best five games over .500.
