American Association Game Recaps
June 12, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release
Wichita 1, Gary SouthShore 0
The Wingnuts pitching staff Tuesday combined to shut out the RailCats while allowing only four hits and two walks with five strikeouts, defeating Gary SouthShore, 1-0. Three of those strikeouts came from starter Derek Blacksher, who threw 6.2 innings and allowed four hits and two walks. Blacksher sits at 3-1 on the season. The Wingnuts' lone run came in the third inning, when CF Mitch Einertson singled in DH John Rodriguez from second. That run-scoring single accounted for Einertson's only hit of the game and his 21st RBI of the year. Only one player int he game had multiple hits. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 and raised his average to .309.
Grand Prairie 8, Laredo 2
Grand Prairie scored six of its eight runs in the fourth inning Tuesday, leading to an 8-2 victory over Laredo. AirHogs LF David Thomas tied for the team- and game-high in hits, going 3-for-4 from the eight hole, racking up his fourth double of the year, scoring once and batting in three runs. Thomas is now batting .215. Joining Thomas in the three-hit club, AirHogs DH Brian Myrow went 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Starting Grand Prairie pitcher Lance Day earned his first win, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. On offense for the Lemurs, LF Palmer Karr Jr. hit his third home run of the year, a solo shot in the fifth inning.
Sioux Falls 6, Sioux City 4
The Pheasants scored all six of their runs in first three innings Tuesday against Sioux City, the final three coming on a bases-clearing, two-out triple from C Al Quintana. The Explorers fought back, and Michael Lang's two-run homer brought his team to within two runs in the eighth inning. After the blast, however, the Sioux Falls bullpen tightened things up, allowing only a walk for the rest of the game. Sioux Falls starting pitcher Mark Michael pulled his season record to 3-2 with a six-inning performance in which he allowed two runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Lang led all players in hits, going 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI for the Explorers.
St. Paul 7, Fargo-Moorhead 2
Clinging to a one-run lead in the fourth inning, the Saints had the bases loaded with two outs for 1B Ole Sheldon, who had grounded out to end the second inning. The RedHawks would have no such luck this time, as Sheldon hit his sixth home run of the year, a grand slam to make the score, 7-2. The Saints later won by that score. Sheldon's slam was his only hit of the night in five at-bats. Saints starting pitcher Danny Gutierrez picked up his first win of the year, throwing six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five RedHawks batters. All of Fargo-Moorhead's runs came in the second inning, the final score thanks to a 3B Ryan Stovail single to right center. Stovail went 1-for-4 from the nine hole.
Kansas City 8, Newark 1
T-Bones 3B Devin Goodwin scored three times for Kansas City, going 2-for-3 and hitting his seventh home run of the year. Goodwin's blast turned a scoreless tie into a 2-0 KC lead in the fourth inning. But thanks to a five-run eighth, that two-run advantage turned into a decisive, 8-1 victory over Newark. The Bears put their lone run on the board in the top of the ninth when Matt Tomczyk singled in Nick Santomauro. Tomcyzk was one of eight Bears to pick up a hit; however, none registered multiple base knocks.
Winnipeg 10, Lincoln 6
The Goldeyes more than batted around their lineup in the first inning and scored eight runs to put the club well on its way to a 10-6 victory over Lincoln. In the opening frame, Winnipeg batters hit two doubles and a triple. The three-bagger, which scored two runs, was in Chris Roberson's second at-bat of the inning. Roberson registered one of the aforementioned doubles and finished the game 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI, raising his batting average to .323. The Saltdogs fought back furiously in the late stages of the game, scoring two runs in each of the final three innings. But the big Goldeyes lead was too much to overcome. At the plate for Lincoln, RF Stephen Holdren went 3-for-5, hitting his seventh double of the year and batting in two runs.
El Paso 10, Amarillo 9
The Diablos withstood a fierce comeback from Amarillo with an eighth-inning run giving El Paso a 10-9 run. The Sox tied the score at nine runs apiece with a seven-run sixth. But two innings later, Diablos C Patrick Arlis tripled in 1B Jonathan Cisneros to give his club the one-run win. Arlis went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, at least sharing the game lead in all three statistical categories. The big sixth for Amarillo saw the visitors rack up three extra-base hits, including a two-RBI triple from RF Tim Alberts. Alberts went 2-for-5 with three RBI on the game. Also with a big night at the plate for the Sox, leadoff SS Jason White went 3-for-6 with a run and two RBI.
