Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Aaron Davis returned to the Wichita line-up and had two points to lead the Thunder (33-13-2) past Quad City (27-21-1) despite losing its starting goaltender midway through the third, winning 2-1 Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Bryan Hogan earned back-to-back wins, making 28 saves on 28 shots and Adam Russo came into the game to help Wichita hold onto its 21st home win of the season. Matt Robinson also had two points and the Thunder is now one win shy of tying its win total from a year ago with a month and a half left in the season.
After missing eight games, Aaron Davis (17) returned to the line-up and got the Thunder going. At 14:17 of the first period, he crossed with Matt Robinson coming over the Quad City blue line and beat Mallards goalie David McKee between the legs for the 1-0 lead.
In the third, Matt Robinson (23) scored the game-winner six seconds into a Thunder power play to make it 2-0. He found some room in the right wing circle and beat McKee through legs on the short side. With just under 10 minutes to go, Hogan left the game and Adam Russo came on in relief. Four minutes later, Quad City got on the board with a power play goal from Matt Duffy to make it 2-1. Russo stood tall down the stretch and made a save just as time expired to help Wichita earn the one-goal victory.
Davis had a goal and an assist in his return, earning number one star honors while Robinson also added two points (1g, 1a) for Wichita. Hogan improved his record to 5-0-0 since coming to Wichita. The two clubs came into the game as the two highest scoring teams in the league, but the goaltenders kept it low-scoring. Wichita finished out a stretch of seeing seven different opponents, winning eight of its last nine contests and still four points ahead of Allen in first place in the Berry Conference.
Wichita begins a tough stretch against three of the best teams in the CHL, starting tomorrow in Missouri. Wichita will face the Mavericks and Evansville over the next seven games before a Sunday affair with Fort Wayne on the road on March 4th.
The Thunder return to home ice this Sunday afternoon against Missouri at 5:05 p.m. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com.
