Davis and Duda Go Deep in B-Mets 4-2 Triumph over \'Wolves

Home runs from Ike Davis and Lucas Duda helped the Binghamton Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Erie SeaWolves Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. 22 year-old righty Brad Holt turned in a quality start to pick up his second straight win.

After Holt fired a perfect first inning, Binghamton (35-57) tallied on a solo shot from Davis off SeaWolves starter Jonah Nickerson in the first to make it 1-0. It was his fourth homer of the year with the B-Mets.

In the second, Binghamton added two more runs on four hits. Caleb Stewart led off the inning with a double and D.J. Wabick advanced him to third with a ground out to the right side. Jonathan Malo then scored Stewart with a base knock to center. Ruben Tejada followed with a single, which advanced Malo to third. On the throw, which went to third, Tejada took second. Jose Coronado concluded the two-run rally with a single to center scoring Malo. Tejada was thrown out by centerfielder Casper Wells trying to score from second, keeping the score 3-0.

Erie (51-42) got on the board in the fifth when Holt issued a leadoff walk to Andy Dirks. After retiring Danny Worth and Deik Scram, Cale Iorg hit an RBI single to score Dirks, making it 3-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Duda smacked his second home run in as many days on the first pitch he saw from Nickerson to bring the lead back to 4-1. With the home run, Duda extended his Eastern League-best hitting streak to 16 games.

Santo De Leon went deep for the third straight game in the seventh inning. The long ball came off Holt to cut the lead to 4-2. After allowing another hit Holt was pulled. He went 6.2 innings and moved to 2-3 on the season, giving up two runs on six hits. He has struck out seven or more batters in three straight games.

Edgar Alfonzo entered in the seventh for Holt and worked 1.1 innings scoreless to get to Connor Robertson for the ninth. Robertson saved his fourth game of the season convincingly. After allowing two runs yesterday in picking up a save, he struck out the side to close it out Saturday despite allowing a hit.

Nickerson was hung with the loss, his seventh of the year. He worked seven innings, but allowed all four B-Mets runs on nine hits.

Emmanuel Garcia extended his home on-base streak to 21 games with a single in the first inning.

Binghamton will finish the four-game set with Erie Sunday afternoon. The B-Mets will toss RHP Eric Brown (4-10, 5.87) and the SeaWolves will send RHP Thad Weber (2-2, 4.28) to the mound. The first pitch is slated for 1:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 12:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
