Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL (July 27, 2006) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that the club has named Dave Baseggio (buh-SEE-jee-oh) as Head Coach of the Peoria Rivermen, the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

"The Blues organization is excited to announce Dave as our new head coach in Peoria," said Davidson. "He brings five years of AHL coaching experience, and his reputation as an excellent teacher will work well with our young talent in Peoria."

Baseggio, 38, has spent the last five seasons with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers coaching staff, including last season as the head coach. He posted a 38-33-6 record with Bridgeport last year and led the Sound Tigers to fourth place in the East Division and a playoff spot, while 18 of his players saw NHL action with the parent club New York Islanders. In all last season, the Sound Tigers endured 172 player transactions and yet posted a 17-4-3 late-season surge to secure a playoff berth.

Baseggio was instrumental in the Sound Tigers' rise to the Calder Cup Final in 2002 and record-setting 2003-04 season. That year Bridgeport set many AHL records on defense, including lowest team goals against average (1.75), fewest goals against (140), highest penalty killing percentage (90.66 percent) and most shutouts at home (12).

Prior to joining Bridgeport's coaching staff, Baseggio was an assistant coach with the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL during the 2000-01 season.

A fourth-round pick (68th overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1986 NHL draft and a two-time International Hockey League (IHL) All-Star (Houston-1997 & Cleveland-1999), Baseggio spent 10 seasons in the AHL and IHL as a playing professional. He captured the IHL's Turner Cup Championship as a rookie with the Indianapolis Ice in 1990, made a trip to the AHL's Calder Cup Final with the Rochester Americans a year later, won another championship in Serie A (Italian Elite League) with the H.C. Bolzano Foxes in 1994 and returned to the IHL Final with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2000.

Baseggio played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Yale University. He captained the Bulldogs hockey team while earning a degree in economics, graduating in 1989 with the Bulldogs' all-time scoring records for a defenseman with 29 goals, 79 assists and 108 points in 111 games. He was named to the All-ECAC team for three consecutive seasons in 1987, 1988 and 1989.

Rivermen season ticket plans are on sale now with 1) a Full Season package (40 games), 2) the 25th Anniversary package (25 games), 3) a 12-game package, 4) a seven-game package and 5) undated voucher books (denominations of 20 vouchers). Packages start at just $75 per seat.
