Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve are proud to announce that a date and time for next year's exhibition game with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Altoona have been set. The Curve will host their parent club on Saturday, March 30, 2013 with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The afternoon date at Peoples Natural Gas Field will come after the Pirates wrap up their spring training slate in Florida and before both Pittsburgh and Altoona open up their respective 2013 regular seasons.
"We're really looking forward to the Pirates' visit as it will be one of those memory-making, once-in-a-generation-type of events," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "Our franchise is extremely grateful and humbled that the Major League club would make it a priority to come to Altoona for the Pirates and Curve fans of this region. We think the Saturday afternoon game will be a hit and we can't wait to release more details about the exhibition game soon."
Pirates President Frank Coonelly made the announcement of the 2013 exhibition contest at the Curve's Opening Night contest on April 5. The game between the Curve and their big league affiliate will be the first such meeting in Altoona since 2000. On May 15 of that year, the Bucs traveled to Blair County Ballpark and took on the Curve in front of 7,346 fans. The Pirates-Curve affiliation is the longest-running of any Pittsburgh minor league partner.
In the Curve franchise's 14 years, the Curve have had over 90 players reach the Major Leagues after playing in Altoona, and over two-thirds of those have made their big league debuts with the Pirates. Led by the efforts of former Curve players Andrew McCutchen (Major League Baseball's leading hitter/National League All-Star), Neil Walker (17-game hitting streak), and Pedro Alvarez (among National League leaders in home runs and RBI), Pittsburgh is in contention for the National League Central Division title and their first post-season berth since 1992.
Ticket information for the March 30, 2013 Pirates-Curve exhibition game will be released at a later date.
The Curve return home to Peoples Natural Gas Field tonight for a weekend series with the Erie SeaWolves. For tickets and information on the upcoming homestand, contact the Curve by calling 877.99.CURVE, stopping by the ballpark, or logging onto AltoonaCurve.com.
