WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 8, 2011) - Matt Wickswat dazzled in his second official start with Winston-Salem and allowed only two hits in seven innings to get a rain-shortened, 5-0 win in front of a sell-out crowd of 6,673 on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. The rain started in the top of the eighth, and the game was stopped in the bottom half of the inning and later called due to inclement weather.

In the third, Winston (8-7, 40-45) struck first with two outs. Tyler Saladino singled and Jared Mitchell doubled off the wall in right-center field to score Saladino and put the Dash up 1-0.

In the fifth and again with two outs, Winston-Salem got on the board again. Saladino tripled into deep right field, and Mitchell hammered a home run over the tall wall in right-center field to put the Dash in front by three.

Meanwhile, Wickswat cruised through the Myrtle Beach (7-9, 47-38) lineup. After allowing a double to Zach Zaneski with one out in the second, he retired the next 15 batters he faced until Mitch Hilligoss singled in the seventh. Wickswat finished with seven scoreless innings and gave up only the two hits and struck out five.

Winston added insurance in the seventh. Kyle Colligan led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second by Austin Yount. Daniel Wagner then hit a single to center field, scoring Colligan. Wagner advanced to second on a throwing error by Ryan Strausborger. That chased Myrtle starter Wilfredo Boscan from the game, and reliever Trevor Hurley came in to face Saladino. Hurley walked the first three hitters he faced; the last one was to Wilkins and scored Wagner.

The skies started to part in the top of the eighth, and completely opened up in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs and runners at first and second Wagner at the plate, the game was halted because of driving rain. It marked only the first mid-game rain delay of the home stand, despite the rain that fell in during or before each of the last five games.

The game was officially called after a 30 minute delay, giving Wickswat his first win of the season. Boscan got the loss after 6.1 innings where he allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
