Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Winston-Salem's offense was held in check by the Brooklyn Cyclones in a 3-1 loss.

Colson Montgomery got things rolling for the Dash right in the top of the first inning. The White Sox top prospect tripled with one out, then Bryan Ramos gave the Dash a 1-0 edge with his single into shallow right field.

Brooklyn had a response in the bottom of the first. Rowdey Jordan opened it up with a leadoff single. Then with two outs, an error on a pickoff attempt and a wild pitch allowed Jordan to advance all the way to third base. That brought Nic Gaddis to the plate, and he singled to center field to score Jordan and knot the game up at 1-1.

In the home half of the second, Shervyen Newton singled with one out. Then Gregory Guerrero, in an 0-2 count, clobbered his first home run of the season to left center field to give the Cyclones a 3-1 lead.

From there, this game turned into a bona fide pitchers' duel. For the Dash, Christian Mena locked in after the second inning, The 19 year-old righty worked through five innings with just the two runs to his name, and struck out seven against just one walk allowed. But for Brooklyn, Junior Santos was on the money as well. Santos, who checks in at 6'7", did not allow another run after the first inning. He tossed seven innings in total, allowing six hits with four punchouts, and did not walk a batter.

Out of the Winston-Salem bullpen, Chase Plymell, Alex Mateo, and Skyler Arias each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with Mateo and Arias fanning two batters apiece. However, Daison Acosta closed the door on a Dash comeback with two scoreless innings in relief of Santos to give the Brooklyn Cyclones a 3-1 win. Santos got the official win while Acosta earned the save, and Mena took the loss for Winston-Salem.
