Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Lakewood, N.J. - Another strong start for Blane Abeyta set the tone on Sunday at ShoreTown Ballpark as the Hudson Valley Renegades took the series finale from the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, 5-2.
Abeyta continued his run of dominance on the mound for the Renegades, tossing six innings of one-run ball on Sunday. He struck out two and walked one while scattering five hits on the day.
Abeyta (5-7) has now allowed four runs in his last 30.1 innings pitched (1.19 ERA) across six appearances since the start of July. The lone run he allowed on Sunday came on an Ethan Wilson RBI single in the third.
Hudson Valley gave him the lead in the top of the first when Jasson Dominguez walked, stole second and scored on a Tyler Hardman RBI single of minor league rehabber Scott Moss. Dominguez finished the game 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
The Renegades tacked on four more in the top of the fourth, with T.J. Rumfield cracking a two-run single off the wall in right against Moss (0-1) and Eduardo Torrealba rocking a two-run triple to center off J.P. Woodward to grow the lead to 5-1.
Rumfield finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and extended his on-base streak to eight consecutive games.
Jersey Shore rallied for a run in the bottom of the eighth against Nelson Alvarez on a Casey Martin fielder's choice groundout to narrow the gap to 5-2, but Ryan Miller struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to secure his second save of the season.
Hudson Valley enjoys a day off on Monday before returning home to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday to begin a new series with the Aberdeen IronBirds. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45. For tickets and more information, slide to www.hvrenegades.com.
