Winston-Salem Dash News Release
¬â¹ ¬â¹WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash slid past the Hickory Crawdads 5-4 in a Friday night showdown at Truist Stadium.
The Dash (11-11) bats came alive early, as Lenyn Sosa led off the first with a single, while Yolbert Sanchez drew a walk to put two on with none out. One batter later, Alex Destino blasted a fly ball to center which Kellen Strahm misplayed, allowing Destino to take second base and two runs to score. Two subsequent throwing errors to first, then third, gave Destino a path home and give the Dash an early 3-0 lead.
Lenyn Sosa racked up another single in the second inning, followed by Yolbert Sanchez who lined a base-knock of his own. Both runners came home on a skyscraper to center field by Luis Curbelo that bounced off the top of the wall and stretched the lead to 5-0.
Lane Ramsey penned his first start for the Dash, firing two innings, giving up no runs, no walks, and striking out two batters. Ramsey was relieved by southpaw Taylor Varnell, who ran into trouble in the sixth with a single by Jonathan Ornelas. Ornelas advanced to third on a double from Frainyer Chavez, who would plate a run on a sacrifice fly to left by Blaine Crim. Kellen Strahm promptly fashioned a base hit and scored on a double by David Garcia, giving the Crawdads a three spot in the sixth frame.
The Crawdads (9-13) relentless pursuit continued in the eight, as Wilber Perez issued a walk to Chavez who scored on an error by Lenyn Sosa. The scoring stopped there for Hickory, and the Dash took a 5-4 victory after a painless ninth.
Varnell (2-0) earned second win of the year for the Dash, while Grant Wolfram (0-2) took the loss for Hickory.
The teams square off again Saturday evening for game five of a six-game homestand at Truist Stadium. Johan Dominguez (1-2)will take the hill for the Dash, facing off against southpaw Avery Weems (0-1)for Hickory. First pitch is schedule for 6:00 p.m. ET, with coverage beginning at 5:45 from https://www.milb.com/winston-salem/team/broadcast-corner.
