Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 15, 2012) -The Dash won their second straight series with a 6-5 win over the Mudcats in a rubber game Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.

In a near repeat of Friday night, Dan Black hit the game winning RBI in the seventh inning to give the Dash another one-run win over the Mudcats. Trayce Thompson came to the plate with the bases loaded and brought home the tying run with a sacrifice fly to center. That set the stage for Black's base hit into right field, scoring Ross Wilson from second. The two runs off Carolina reliever Jordan Cooper (0-1) in the seventh ended a stretch of 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings from the Mudcats bullpen.

Winston-Salem (5-4) came from behind to win for the first time this season. The Dash jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first with the help of two Mudcats errors. Brady Shoemaker advanced to first on a dropped third strike and subsequent throwing error from catcher Dwight Childs. Carlos Sanchez scored from third on the play. The Dash added two more runs in the inning after Nick Ciolli doubled to score Thompson and Shoemaker. All three runs in the inning were unearned.

Carolina (5-4) got on the board with a Jeremie Tice home run in the second and tied the game in the fourth with a three-run blast from Ronny Rodriguez. Dash starter Ryan Buch exited after five innings. He allowed four runs but stuck out a career high nine batters in a no decision.

Justin Collop (1-0) allowed a Mudcats run in the sixth but got the win after Winston-Salem responded with two in the seventh. Cooper was knocked out after giving up four hits and two runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Leroy Hunt closed the game in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season. He stranded a runner at second to preserve the win.

The Dash begin a three-game road set in Myrtle Beach against the Pelicans tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. on wsdash.com. Matt Heidenreich (1-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for the Dash. Wilmer Font (0-1, 36.00 ERA) toes the rubber for the Pelicans.

Winston-Salem returns to BB&T Ballpark Thursday to begin an eight-game homestand, its longest of the season. For tickets and more information on the upcoming homestand, go to wsdash.com or call (336) 714-2287.
