
Dash Put Away by Grasshoppers 6-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell on Friday evening to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-2, burying themselves in an early hole from which they could not recover.
Davis Martinwas handed the ball for the ninth time this season and was rattled by the Greensboro bats right out of the gate. Matt Fraizer led off with a single to center field and stole second base. Martin then plunked Aaron Shackelford with a pitch and allowed Lolo Sanchez a single to score Fraizer. Shackelford scored on a single by Fabricio Macias, with whom Sanchez scored on a single by Matt Gorski.
Martin was relieved after just 2/3 of an inning with Greensboro in the lead 4-0.
Trey Jeansentered in relief afterward and retired the side but was met by Aaron Shackelford in the second, who belted a solo shot in the to mark his eleventh homer of the year and put the Hoppers ahead 5-0.
The Dash bats woke up slightly in the third as Luis Curbelo towered a leadoff triple off the center field wall. Curbelo scored on a 5-3 groundout chopped into by Lazaro Leal.
Winston-Salem added another run in the seventh as a rundown between first and second base drew attention away from third, allowing Alex Destino to touch home, retiring Lenyn Sosa in the process.
Isaiah Carranza appeared in a successful long relief outing lasting five innings through the end of the game. Carranza gave up a run in the eighth inning as Matt Gorski singled and scored on a base-knock by Will Matthiessen.
Bear Bellomy put the Dash away through the eighth and ninth frames, securing a 6-2 victory for Greensboro. Davis Martin (2-2) took his second loss of the season, while starter Omar Cruz (3-3) penned the win for Greensboro.
The Dash snap their two-game winning streak and even the series at 2-2. The two teams square off in game five with a first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m. ET at Truist Stadium.
