Winston-Salem Dash News Release
KINSTON, N.C. - Four Dash pitchers combined to allow just six baserunners to lead Winston-Salem to a 3-0 win over Down East on Saturday night at Grainger Stadium. The win is the 12th shutout of the year for Winston-Salem (42-24, 83-53).
The Dash pulled ahead in the second inning against Down East (23-45, 58-80) starter Tyler Thomas (0-2). After Gavin Sheets worked a leadoff walk, Laz Rivera singled to put runners on first and second. With Zach Remillard at the plate, a wild pitch allowed Sheets and Rivera to advance to second and third. Then, Remillard blasted a double over LeDarious Clark's head in left field to bring home both runners and give the Dash an early 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Henzman cruised through his ninth start with the Dash. The right-hander fired four scoreless innings and has not allowed an earned run in his last 10 innings. Drew Hasler (9-2) followed with two clean frames to earn his team-leading ninth win of the season.
The Dash tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning. Following a Luis Gonzalez leadoff double to left-center, Nick Madrigal pulled a line drive through the hole between third and short for an RBI single to extend Winston-Salem's lead to 3-0.
Danny Dopico continued the Dash's dominance on the mound. The right-hander struck out four batters over two scorleess innings. Mike Morrison finished the job, keeping the Wood Ducks off the scoreboard in the ninth to earn his sixth save of the season.
The Dash's series against the Wood Ducks continues on Sunday, when right-hander Alec Hansen (0-0, 4.50 ERA) faces left-hander Sal Mendez (2-3, 3.81 ERA). First pitch is at 2 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 1:45 p.m. Fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio App.
Following the end of the regular season, the Dash begin their chase for a Mills Cup Championship. Winston-Salem's playoff run, presented by Pepsi and NCDOT, begins with a matchup against the Buies Creek Astros in the Southern Division Championship Series. After the first two games of the series in Buies Creek, Winston-Salem returns to BB&T Ballpark for Game 3 on Friday, September 7, with first pitch at 7 p.m.
Prior to game three, a Food Truck Festival will take place at BB&T Ballpark starting at 5 p.m. If necessary, Games 4 and 5 of the Southern Division Championship Series will be hosted at the downtown facility. Game three will mark the first postseason contest at BB&T Ballpark since 2015. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
