KINSTON, NC - A combination of defensive miscues and strong Kinston pitching resulted in Winston-Salem's first loss of the season, a 5-0 defeat at Grainger Stadium on Friday night. The Dash (1-1) committed two errors and only mustered four hits en route to the shutout.

After trailing for nearly the entire game on Thursday, Kinston (1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Friday. Dash starter Nate Jones hit Lucas Montero with the second pitch of the frame. Montero then stole second base and moved to third on Jordan Henry's single. Jason Kipnis hit a line drive to left field to score Montero and the game's first run.

The Indians scored twice more in the fifth off Dash starter Nate Jones (0-1). The righty retired the first two batters of the frame before Kipnis singled and Abner Abreu walked.

Hector Santiago then relieved Jones with two on and two out. Santiago struck out Donnie Webb on a high fastball that sailed past catcher Josh Phegley and to the backstop, allowing Webb to reach first on the wild pitch to load the bases. Karexon Sanchez followed with a hard-hit ball that glanced off third baseman Jon Gilmore's glove and into left field. Two runs scored on the Gilmore error to make it 3-0 Kinston.

The K-Tribe padded its lead in the eighth with two more runs off Dash reliever Leroy Hunt, who gave up RBI hits to Doug Pickens and Ronald Rivas.

Winston-Salem couldn't muster the same offensive output that led to Thursday's 7-1 season opening win. Indians starter and top Cleveland pitching prospect Nick Hagadone pitched 4.1 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits. Bryce Stowell (1-0) followed Hagadone with 2.2 innings of two-hit shutout baseball to earn the win.

Winston had several opportunities to dent the scoring column throughout the night. With two outs in the fourth inning, Eduardo Escobar was thrown out at home on a close play after Gilmore singled to right field. The Dash also put men on second and third with one out in the eighth inning, but Escobar and Phegley grounded out to douse the scoring threat.

Joe McEwing's squad looks to get back above .500 on the season on Saturday night when LHP Charlie Leesman makes his Dash debut against UNC-product and nearby Greenville, NC native Alex White. The righthander was Cleveland's first round draft pick last year and he will be making his professional debut in front of what is expected to be a packed house at Grainger Stadium.

First pitch on Saturday is at 7 p.m. The audio webcast pre-game show begins at 6:45 at www.wsdash.com.

The Dash home opener and the first game at BB&T Ballpark is Tuesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. against the Potomac Nationals.
