Hopes Dashed - The K-Tribe's hopes for an Opening Day win were Dashed by Winston-Salem last night. Winston-Salem had a record of 14-6 against Kinston last season. It was the most wins for the Dash against any CL team last season, and it was in turn the fewest wins Kinston had against any Carolina League team in 2009.
Start Me Up - Seven Players on the K-Tribe Opening Day Roster are in the Top 25 Cleveland Indians Prospects according to Baseball America. All five pitchers in Kinston's starting rotation on Opening Day are ranked in the Top 20 Cleveland prospects according to BA. Baseball America ranks the prospect talent in Cleveland's farm system as the third-best in all of baseball.
Hometown Heroes - Starting Pitcher Alex White is a native of nearby Greenville, NC (just 25 minutes away from Kinston) and pitched collegiately at the University of North Carolina. White was named third-team All-American as a sophomore at UNC, and earned All-ACC honors in his sophomore and junior seasons. In his Tar Heels career, White was 27-14 with a 3.96 ERA and finished in the top 10 in school history in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. During his time at UNC he led the Tar Heels to three straight College World Series Appearances. In high school, White helped D.H. Conley win back-to-back state titles in 2005 and 2006, and was named MVP of the 2006 state tournament.
Welcome Back - 16 players on Kinston's Opening Day Roster spent time with Kinston in 2009. Tonight's starting pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz was the Opening Day starter last season for the K-Tribe.
A Decade of Dominance - During the past decade in the Carolina League, Kinston had the most regular season wins and playoff wins of any CL team, made 7 playoff appearances and tied for the league high in division titles (4) and Mills Cup Championships (2).
