Dash Fall to Greenville 11-1 in Series Finale

Greenville, S.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell 11-1 in the Sunday evening finale of a six-game set versus the Greenville Drive at Fluor Field.

Kaleb Roper took the mound for the Dash in his second start of the week and was knocked around a bit in the second inning. Wil Dalton shot a grounder past short to bring home Tyler Dearden and move Nick Sogard to second base. Dalton and Sogard scored on a double to left by Elih Marrero to put Greenville ahead 3-0.

Marrero touched home in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double by Cameron Cannon, which led to Ryan Newman replacing Roper with Ryan Williamson.

Yoelqui Cespedesopened up the scoring for Winston-Salem in the fifth inning as he launched a solo shot to right center field to mark his fourth home run on the year.

Greenville answered with three more runs in the home half of the fifth beginning with a leadoff home run by Brandon Howlett. After an out was recorded, Nick Sogard belted another deep drive to left center field. Elih Marrero reached on a fielding error and scored on a double by Christian Koss. By the end of the fifth, the Drive enjoyed a 7-1 lead over the Dash.

The Drive tacked on another in the sixth inning, as Nick Sogard sacrificed to right field to bring in Tyreque Reed from third.

In the bottom of the seventh, Christian Koss hacked an inside-the-park home run on a line drive to right field.

The Drive added a couple more in the eighth as an error by A.J. Gill allowed Brandon Howlett and Tyler Dearden to score.

Greenville took the final game by the score of 11-1, which also secured a series victory at 4-2.

Chris Murphy (3-2) penned the win for Greenville, while Kaleb Roper (0-1) took his first loss on the year.

The Dash have Monday off and then head back to Winston-Salem to face the Hickory Crawdads, High-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, in a six-game series at Truist Stadium starting Tuesday, July 6.
