Winston-Salem Dash News Release

ROME, GA - The Winston-Salem Dash dropped game five of a six game series to the Rome Braves, 4-1, Saturday evening at AdventHealth Stadium.

Winston-Salem (47-55) gave the ball to Juan Carela, making his second start in the White Sox organization after being traded from the New York Yankees on August 1st, and cruised through the first two innings.

In the third, Rome (50-57) pushed across a run on a throwing error by Carela making it 1-0 after three innings. The Dash threatened in the top of the fourth but couldn't tie it up, and the Braves took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the frame on a ground out.

The Dash didn't pick up their first hit until the fifth, when Wes Kath doubled, but was stranded. In the bottom of the fifth, another Rome run came home on an error by the Winston-Salem defense and the home side led 3-0 heading to the sixth.

Rome made it a 4-0 game in the seventh before Winston-Salem got on the board in the eighth. Brooks Baldwin singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a throwing error by pitcher Jorge Bautista. Baldwin moved to third on a ground out and came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Michael Turner cutting the deficit to three, 4-1.

Dash right hander Eric Adler set down the Braves in order in the bottom of the eighth, but in the ninth, Winston-Salem could not rally and dropped game five, 4-1.

Carela took the loss after going five innings and allowing three runs, only two earned, and striking out three. Bautista picked up the win after going four innings in relief of Hurston Waldrep.

Winston-Salem and Rome meet for the series finale on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. from AdventHealth Stadium.
