Rome Emperors News Release
ROME, GA - 2023 first rounder Hurston Waldrep made his high-A debut Saturday night, and the Braves won their fourth straight over the Dash, 4-1.
Waldrep, Jorge Bautista, and Ronaldo Alesandro allowed just one run over nine innings on a night where the Dash had more errors (3) than hits (2). Waldrep's outing lasted 3.2 innings and the former Gator struck out a pair while walking three. Bautista bridged the gap, covering four innings and punching out six before handing the ball to Alesandro who picked up his first save of the summer.
At the plate, singles from the 9-1 batters of Ethan Workinger and Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. led to Rome's first run of the night after an errant pickoff attempt to first. Winston-Salem's defensive struggles carried over into the fourth and fifth when walks and a few more errors brought in two more for the Braves. Up 3-0, Rome was able to plate another after the stretch after a wild pitch brought in Geraldo Quintero.
The 4-1 victory solidified a series victory for Rome, something that has eluded the team since the third week of May when the Braves took five of six from Hickory. They will look to make it five straight tomorrow at 1:00 pm EDT.
