Dash Fall 8-0 in Series Opener Versus Hickory

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell 8-0 to the Hickory Crawdads in opener of a six-game series at Truist Stadium on Tuesday.

Davis Martintook the mound for Winston-Salem in his 12th start of the year. Martin ran into trouble in the fourth inning as Jonathan Ornelas singled to right field and scuttered all the way to third base on a fielding error by Alex Destino. Ornelas touched the plate on a two-run blast to left field by Blaine Crim, marking the eighth homer of the season for Crim and giving Hickory a 2-0 lead.

The Crawdads tacked another run on in the fifth inning as Kellen Strahm walked, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice double play hit into by Blaine Crim.

Isaiah Carranza entered in relief of Martin, who finished four innings with four hits, two earned runs, one walk and six strikeouts. Carranza fared well until the top of the ninth inning when the Hickory offense exploded. Carranza gave up six hits and five earned runs to push Hickory well ahead 8-0, securing the Hickory victory in game one.

Reliever Justin Slaten (2-4) penned the win for Hickory, striking out ten batters through six innings of work. Davis Martin (2-4) took the loss for Winston-Salem.

With the victory on Tuesday, Hickory takes a 1-0 lead in the series which continues Wednesday. Seth Nordlintakes the bump for the Crawdads. Bailey Horn mans the mound for the Dash.
