WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash scored their only run in the seventh, and held on to beat the Carolina Mudcats 1-0 in front of 6,854 at BB&T Ballpark Friday night.
The Mudcats drop to 4-3. The Dash improve to an equal record.
Jon Bachanov (1-0) pitched two scoreless frames in relief to pick up his first win. Leroy Hunt retired the side in the ninth for the save, his first.
The tough-luck loss went to Mike Rayl (0-1). The south paw matched a team best seven innings for the start. He allowed one run on two hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Winston-Salem's only run came in the last of the seventh. Carlos Sanchez drew a lead-off walk. A sacrifice bunt by Trayce Thompson moved him to second. Dan Black scored Sanchez on a line drive to center.
Though he didn't factor in the decision, Andre Rienzo had another masterful start for the Dash. The Brazilian fanned nine hitters over six shutout innings.
The Mudcats continue their three-game series against Winston-Salem Saturday night. Carolina will throw RH Michael Goodnight (0-0, 7.94) against LH Spencer Arroyo (0-0, 17.18 for the Dash.
