WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 26, 2011) -Today the Dash announced a series of roster moves. RHP Justin Cassel and RHP J.R. Ballinger have been promoted to AAA Charlotte, and C Kevin Dubler has been sent to low-A Kannapolis. In corresponding roster moves, the Dash receive RHP Brian Blough and RHP Jason Van Skike from Rookie Bristol.
Cassel returns to Charlotte for the first time since April of last year. Before starting the season with a rehab appearance in Bristol on July 30, he had been on the disabled list since May of last season. He had right shoulder debridement surgery in 2010. Cassel made two appearances with the White Sox before coming to Winston-Salem, where he was activated from the disabled list. In five games with the Dash, he had an ERA of 0.79 in 11.1 innings.
In two stints with the Dash this season, Ballinger was 4-2 with a 5.54 ERA in 17 games. He won his first four outings in Winston-Salem in late May and early June, and didn't pick up a win in his next 13 appearances. The Moss Point, MS native started the season with Kannapolis and was 2-3 with a 2.18 ERA and two saves in 12 appearances.
Dubler returns to Kannapolis after being promoted to Winston-Salem from the Intimidators on July 18. With the Dash he hit .306 with three home runs and ten RBI in 12 games. He began his time in Winston by picking up a hit in nine straight games. Dubler hit .266 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 44 appearances for Kannapolis. He split time between catcher and designated hitter for the Intimidators.
An 18th round draft pick in the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Blough (rhymes with "wow") was 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA and four saves in Bristol. He attended Kennesaw State University where he was 4-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 14 starts in 2011.
Van Skike joins the stable of Indiana State University prospects in the White Sox system, and on the Dash roster. He's the fourth ISU product to suit up in Winston this season, joining Nick Ciolli, Brady Shoemaker, and Jake Petricka. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent this year and reported to Bristol. With the White Sox, Van Skike was 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA in 19 games, all relief appearances. He was a starter for the Sycamores this season and went 4-5 with a 4.25 ERA in 16 starts. He threw two complete game shutouts at ISU, including a nine-inning no-hitter on March 5 against Central Arkansas.
