ASHEVILLE, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash and Asheville Tourists completed a six-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday at McCormick Field.
Fueled by a potent early-inning offensive attack, The Dash took game one by the score of 9-3.
Winston-Salem put up a two-spot in the first inning and followed with a four-run effort in the fourth which was highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Jagger Rusconi.
Lenyn Sosastung a baseball over the left center field wall in the fourth to score two more. Luis Mieses kept the home run parade rolling in the fifth with a solo shot to right center field.
Dash starter Kaleb Roper went four innings and allowed only three hits and two earned runs while striking out six. The Dash bullpen, consisting of Declan Cronin, Vince Arobio, and McKinley Moore, no-hit the tourists while striking out a combined three batters. Cronin (3-2) nabbed the win for Winston-Salem. Tourists starter Angel Macuare (0-5) took the loss for Asheville.
In game two, Winston-Salem struck first once again as Jagger Rusconi doubled to left to score Brandon Bossard in the third. Rusconi trotted home as Lenyn Sosa singled up the middle to put the Dash ahead 2-0.
Zach Daniels answered with a two-RBI single in the home third to tie the game at two.
Winston-Salem took a temporary 3-2 lead as Gunnar Troutwine blasted a solo bomb to right field.
The Tourists blew the game open with a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth. Trey Jeans allowed a leadoff double to C.J. Stubbs, who later advanced to third on a passed ball. Enmanuel Valdez drove Stubbs in on a double to left and took third on a flyout. A wild pitch from Jeans sent Valdez home to score, clearing the bases. Justin Dirden then reached on a single to left field and made it to third on a grounder-turned-fielding error from Yorbin Ceuta.
Cooper Bradford replaced Jeans on the mound and immediately walked Zach Daniels to load the bases. J.C. Correa doubled to score Dirden, Ceuta and Daniels. After four innings, the Tourists enjoyed a 7-3 lead.
Luis Curbelo drove in a run in the fifth on a double to center field but was matched by Enmanuel Valdez who homered to right center.
Brian Glowicki threw a wild pitch to score Deury Carrasco in the ninth, giving the Tourists a final score of 9-4. Trey Jeans (2-3) took the loss for Winston-Salem. Alfredi Jimenez (1-1) collected a win for Asheville.
With the doubleheader split, the Tourists and Dash split the series as well at 3-3.
