Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Yu Darvish made a rehabilitation start Sunday afternoon for the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and pitched two scoreless, hitless innings in the Riders' 4-3 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks in front of a sellout crowd of 11,842 fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark, the fourth-largest crowd in team history.
Darvish threw 32 pitches (18 strikes) and struck out two for Frisco (17-5). Two batters reached base for the Hooks (10-12) on a walk and an error.
The Riders gave Darvish some early run support. Lewis Brinson and Ryan Cordell hit back-to-back solo home runs with two outs in the first inning to go up 2-0. Cordell leads the team and is tied for second in the Texas League with six home runs this season.
By the ninth inning, Frisco trailed 4-3 and was in search of a third straight late-game comeback. The Riders put two runners on with two outs in the ninth, but weren't able to finish the rally against Aaron West, who teamed up with reliever Chris Cotton (1-0) to hold the Riders scoreless for the final 3 2/3 innings.
Corpus Christi (10-12) dealt the decisive blow in the seventh against reliever Jose Leclerc (0-4), taking a 4-3 lead on Derek Fisher's two-run double into right-center field.
Before Fisher's big hit, the Hooks got on the board in the third on a solo homer from Chan Jong Moon against Connor Sadzeck, the first man to come out of the bullpen after Darvish's start. The Hooks tied the game 2-2 in the top of the sixth, Ronald Guzman answered back for the Riders in the bottom of the inning with an RBI triple to plate Brinson and give Frisco a 3-2 lead.
The Riders wrap up their eight-game homestand Monday night against Corpus Christi. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and right-hander Sam Wolff (4-0, 2.57 ERA) will make the start for Frisco against fellow righty Joe Musgrove (1-1, 0.52 ERA) for the Hooks. Fans can watch the action on MiLB.TV and live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
