New Haven County Cutters News Release

Darryl Strawberry, formerly of the New York Mets and New York Yankees, will be appearing at historic Yale Field on Wednesday July 18th when the Cutters square off against The Quebec City Capitales at 7:05. Strawberry will be signing autographs until 8:30 as well as promoting his charity for autism, The Darryl Strawberry Foundation.

After being drafted first overall by the Mets in the 1980 amateur draft, Strawberry quickly made a name for himself winning Rookie of the Year honors in his first season. He played eight seasons with the Mets becoming a perennial all-star from 1984 until 1991.

Strawberry signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent after the 1990 season, spending four years between the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants before returning to New York as a member of the Yankees.

After playing on three World Championship teams, Strawberry has moved on from baseball and has been focusing on raising the awareness of Autism. He has appeared at numerous Autism centers to speak and will hold his first annual charity golf tournament on August 6th with all proceeds going towards Autism research.

The New Haven County Cutters have worked to a 20-26 record so far in the first half of the season which officially ends on Sunday July 15th. The Cutters have taken the first three games of an 11-game home stand against the Can-Am Grays. Starting Monday they open up against Les Capitales for four games before finishing out the home stand with three games against the Worcester Tornadoes.
