Mottram's Ninth Inning Hit Lifts Nashua over Capitales, 3-2

(NASHUA, NH, July 14, 2007) Designated Hitter Allen Mottram's one-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Nashua Pride to a 3-2 victory over the Quebec Capitals Saturday night at Historic Holman Stadium before a crowd of 1,916. The win enabled the Pride (27-19) to finish the first half of the Can-Am League season in second place, a half game ahead of Quebec (27-20). The New Jersey Jackals clinched the first half title earlier in the week.

Mottram's hit scored John Ramistella won started the Pride rally in the ninth by drawing a walk off Quebec losing pitcher T.J. Stanton (1-5) who took over from starter Michel Simard who worked six and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and two runs, one of them earned. Simard walked two and struck out ten.

Nashua starter Hideki Nagasaka pitched eight innings for the Pride, surrendering five hits and two runs, both earned. The Japanese righthander issued four hits and fanned 11 and unofficially threw 137 pitches. Pride reliever Angelo Burrows (3-1) pitched a scoreless ninth inning and earned the victory. Burrows earned two wins in the four-game series against Quebec as the Pride won three of four.

Quebec's scoring came in the seventh inning when Nick Trainor hit a two-run homer off Nagasaka. For Trainor it was his second of the season.

Nashua scored in the second inning on an RBI single by Richard Giannotti and in the sixth when Quebec right fielder Scotty Martin uncorked a wild throw to the plate allowing Mottram to score from third base.

The Pride open the second half of the Can-Am League schedule on Monday night in Augusta, New Jersey against the Sussex Skyhawks. All Pride games this season can be hears on the Internet at www.nashuapride.com or www.canamleague.com.
