Salt Lake Bees News Release

Salt lake city—The Angels announced Wednesday that INF Darin Erstad will begin a major league rehab assignment with the Salt Lake Stingers beginning Thursday June 10. The Angels also optioned INF Robb Quinlan to Salt Lake from the Angels effective June 9, in order to activate OF Tim Salmon from the disabled list. Both Erstad and Quinlan will be in uniform tonight for the Stingers as they take on the defending PCL Champion Sacramento River Cats at Franklin Covey Field at 7:00pm.

Erstad, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 9, 2004 due to a strained right hamstring. This marks the fifth time Erstad has been placed on the disabled list in his career, and the fourth time because of a hamstring injury. He was limited to just 67 games last season with the Angels with two stints on the disabled list with right hamstring tendonitis. He batted .252 (65/258) with 35 runs scored, four home runs, 17 RBI and nine stolen bases last year. He completed a major league rehab assignment for the Stingers last season from May 31-June 7, 2003. He batted .407 (11/27) with six runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base in seven games for Salt Lake. Originally selected by the Angels in the first round (first pick overall) of the 1995 free agent draft, Erstad is batting .264 (34/129) with 19 runs scored, nine doubles and 20 RBI in 30 games this season. He snapped a 14-game hit streak on May 8, one shy of his career-best. Erstad will wear jersey number 34 for the Stingers tonight.

Quinlan, 27, was batting .308 (32/104) with 15 runs scored, nine doubles, two homers and 17 RBI this season for the Stingers when he was recalled by the Angels on May 6. It was Quinlan's second stint in the major leagues after playing in 38 games for the Halos in 2003. Quinlan batted .281 (9/32) with four runs scored, two doubles and one RBI in 12 games for the Angels this season. Quinlan will wear his usual number 17 for Salt Lake.
