Last Night...David Filak earned his first victory with the Danville Braves last night in a 9-2 win...After allowing a leadoff single, Filak retired the next 13 batters...After allowing another single he retired the final five batters before his night was over...He went six strong innings and gave up one earned run on two hits while striking out five...Both teams exchanged a run in the first inning...Up 2-1, Brandon Drury hit a two run homer in the third for a 4-1 lead...In the sixth, Chase Larsson went yard...His seventh homerun of the year was a three run bomb that gave Danville a 9-1 lead...Matt Suschak made his 2011 Danville debut and pitched one inning while giving up just one hit...Wilson Rivera pitched the final two innings of the game and allowed one earned run on three hits...Danville improved to 29-23 and are just one game back in the Appy League East.
Facing Off...These two teams have played one another ten times, tonight will be the 11th and last...Danville is 6-4 in the ten contests and 4-2 in Burlington...So far this year Danville hitters are batting .282 against Burlington pitching and have 11 homeruns...Danville has scored 78 runs in the ten games...Danville's pitching (3.18 ERA) is holding Burlington batters to a .256 clip...The Royals have managed to score juts 39 runs and six homeruns...Greg Ross is 2-1 against Burlington this year.
Cool Rays...Just a few days ago the Princeton Rays were battling with Danville for second in the Appalachian League East standings but are now five games back of Bluefield...Princeton is just 3-9 in the month of August and have lost five straight...The team was swept in their last series against Bluefield and are on the verge of being swept by the Kingsport Mets tonight.
League Leaders... Drury's 4-for-5 night on Friday moved him back into second amongst the hitting leaders in the Appy League... Drury's average now stands at .345 with 32 runs scored, eight homers, and 42 RBIs...He is 26 points behind the leader, Jamal Austin of Pulaski...Lucas La Point is first in the league in pitching...His 1.98 ERA is .13 points ahead of Derek Christensen of Elizabethton....Greg Ross is fifth in pitching in the league...His ERA stands at 2.66 and he is tied for the most wins (6) with Elizabethton's Tim Shibuya.
