Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski VA (August 14, 2011) - The rubber match for the three game series between the Pulaski Mariners and the Bluefield Blue Jays took place Sunday night at Historic Calfee Park. The game started out as a pitcher's duel, then the Blue Jays pulled away late and won the game 7-2.

Bluefield made a statement in the top of the first on a lead-off homerun by Dalton Pompey. The Mariners would answer back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Jean Acevedo that scored Guillermo Pimentel to tie the game at one a piece.

The Mariners inched ahead to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. With one out, Patrick Brady exploded on a ball that bounced off the wall in left center. His long double was followed by another double off the wall by Efrain Nunez. His RBI double scored Brady to give the advantage to Pulaski.

With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning, the Blue Jays struck for a big seventh inning. They batted around their order, picking up three runs along the way. After a pair of walks to start the inning, Chris Hawkins nailed a two RBI double that scored Andy Fermin and Art Charles. Charles later came around to score on an Aaron Arcila RBI single to push the lead in Bluefield's favor 5-2. The big seventh inning would be all the Blue Jays would need, as they scored two time in the ninth just to make sure on their way to a 7-2 victory.

Mitchell Taylor (4-1) received the win while Angel Raga (2-3) was tagged with the loss. The Mariners will return home Tuesday night, when they take on the Greenville Astros for a three game series.
