Danville Otterbots News Release

Burlington, NC - Sunday night will be a night that the Burlington Royals will hope to soon forget. Billy Beckwith hopes he never forgets it. Beckwith homered three times in Sunday night's 10-2 Danville victory over the Royals. The win was the D-Braves 30th win of the season, just four wins shy of last year's mark. It also completed a three game sweep of the Royals in Burlington.

The Braves came out of the gates hot. By the time Matt Ridings got his first out of the game, the Braves had already scored four times and were just four batters in. Nick Ahmed led off the game with a walk and scored all the way from first on an Elmer Reyes double. Brandon Drury followed up with a single to score Reyes. It was next that Beckwith launched his first of three homeruns on the night. His two run homer gave the Braves a 4-0 lead.

Beckwith went yard again to lead off the top of the third inning. His tenth homerun of the year gave Danville a 5-0 lead over the Royals.

The designated hitter was not the only Braves player to go long on Sunday. In the sixth, with Edison Sanchez aboard, Nick Ahmed hit his fourth homerun of the season. Three batters later though, Beckwith launched another. It was his third homerun of the game, second with Drury on base, and eleventh of the season. Beckwith finished the night 3-for-3 with five RBIs and one walk.

AJ Holland made his first start of his professional career. He went two innings and gave up one hit and two walks. John Cornely took over after there was a rain delay near the end of the second inning. Cornely earned the win for his three innings of work. He allowed one hit, two walks, and struck out four.

Daniel Lopez pitched the sixth and seventh innings. He allowed the first runs of the night for Burlington in the seventh. A sacrifice fly by Jose Rodriguez allowed Cam Conner to score. Conner had gotten on due to a throwing error by Lopez. Michael ntonio followed Rodriguez's sac fly with a double to score Lane Adams. Lopez pitched just the two innings and allowed three hits, one earned run, one walk, and he struck out three.

After experiencing a rain delay in the second, the game was forced into another rain delay in the top of the eighth inning. Ultimately, it caused the umpires to end the game early.

Sunday night's win capped a three game sweep of the Royals. The team will have a day off on Monday and then return home on Tuesday, August 16 to face the Princeton Rays.
