Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - With an assist on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, against the Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks goaltender Dante Giannuzzi set a new club record for career assists by a goaltender with 10.

Giannuzzi set the new mark during the Winterhawks' 7-2 victory after making a save and quickly moving the puck up ice to Aiden Sotas. The rookie then dished it to Marcus Nguyen, who wired it in from the right circle, giving Giannuzzi the secondary assist to set the club record. The 20-year-old from Winnipeg, Man. passed Clint Malarchuk (nine assists, 1979-81) and Byron Dafoe (nine assists, 1987-91) to reach the top spot.

The New Year's Eve helper was Giannuzzi's third assist of the season, alongside points on Oct. 15 and Dec. 28. In his fifth season with the Winterhawks, he boasts an impressive 16-3-2-0 record to put him over 50 career victories. Entering 2023, Giannuzzi owns a 2.86 goals-against-average, a .906 save percentage and one shutout.

Congratulations Dante!
