
Pats Rematch Wheat Kings Today

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats head to Brandon for a rematch with the Wheat Kings at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Westoba Place.
The Pats are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders, falling to 1-2 in the second-half. Braxton Whitehead and Sam Oremba scored for the Pats in the loss, while they split the duties in net between Drew Sim and Matthew Kieper as Sim stopped 21 of 26 through 40 minutes of play and Kieper made five saves on five shots in the final period. The Pats went 4-4 on their penalty kill and 0-4 on their power play. The final shots were 31-22 for the Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Brandon Wheat Kings are coming off a 6-2 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on home ice on Saturday, which split their home-and-home with Moose Jaw after they defeated the Warriors on the road on Friday by a score of 11-2. On Saturday, the Wheat Kings fell down 5-0 in the second period before adding a couple of goals. Nate Danielson scored his 18th to extend his goal-streak to three games and point-streak to four contests and Luke Shipley scored his seventh of the season and fifth with the Wheat Kings. Carson Bjarnason got the start, allowing five goals on 24 shots before being pulled for Nicholas Jones who made eight saves on nine shots. Moose Jaw was 2-6 on their power play while Brandon was 0-2 on their man advantage.
Since parting ways with Don MacGillivray on Nov. 28, with Marty Murray taking over as both Head Coach & GM, the Wheat Kings have gone 6-2-2. The Wheat Kings will play 33 more games in the second-half, with 18 at home and 15 on the road.

The Regina Pats traded 2004-born goaltender Matthew Kieper to the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a 2023 fourth-round pick (via EDM) and a 2025 sixth-round pick on Tuesday. The Winnipeg, Man. product played in 12 games with the Pats this season, going 4-5-0-1 with a 4.39 GAA and a .865 SV%.
