Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings pick up a 6-2 win over the Regina Pats Wednesday night.
The game started out great for the Wheat Kings with Logen Hammett finding Trae Johnson open on a breakout allowing Johnson to score his 2nd of the year only 3:18 into the game to make it 1-0 Wheat Kings. The Wheat Kings would survive 3 Regina Pats powerplays and that momentum would give them another goal, Logen Hammett would take a cross ice pass from Calder Anderson allowing Hammett to score his 2nd of the year to make it 2-0 Wheat Kings heading into the 2nd period.
The Pats got a goal early on in the second frame when Layton Feist fired a shot from the point which would go off the stick of former Brandon Wheat King Riley Ginnell to cut the Wheat Kings lead in half. The Wheat Kings would restore the two goal lead on the powerplay. Nolan Ritchie would feed Brett Hyland down low who placed a harmless looking shot through the five hole of Drew Sim to give the Wheat Kings a 3-1 lead after 40. The goal would be Brett Hyland's team leading 19th of the year.
The Wheat Kings would add three more goals in the third. Tony Wilson would score his 5th of the year to make it 4-1 off a Roger McQueen feed, then Brett Hyland would score his 2nd of the game (20th of the season) on the powerplay to make it 5-1. Jake Chiasson would get the monkey off his back with a powerplay goal of his own to make it 6-1 Wheat Kings. The Pats would get a late one from forward Zack Stringer but they would run out of time with the Wheat Kings winning 6-2.
