Danis Dominates Bruins in 4-1 Hartford Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Yann Danis made 30 saves on 31 shots, including a few doozies as the Providence Bruins fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

The Wolf Pack and Bruins both had multiple good chances to score in the first period, though Hartford had more of them, and was able to capitalize on one to take the lead. Oscar Lindberg had the first Wolf Pack shot of the game on a breakaway, but hit the crossbar. Fresh off of his first professional goal last night, Frank Vatrano had a golden opportunity to give the home team the lead six minutes in, but his all-alone backhander on the right doorstep went wide of the cage.

Justin Vaive scored his third goal of the season series on a rebound that came from the right wing side of the ice. His lamp lighter gave the visitors a 1-0 edge at 11:52.

The Bruins had more scoring chances in the middle period than the Wolf Pack, but Hartford again was the only team to score. Danis made a couple of impressive saves on the same Providence rush, including robbing a one-timer from the left wing side while he was outside the crease.

The visitors doubled their lead at 12:18, when Ryan Haggerty scored the first special teams goal for either team in the four-game season series. (Providence was 0-for-17 to that point on the power play, and Hartford was 0-for-its-first-18.) Haggerty beat Jeremy Smith five hole after receiving a rebound on the near doorstep.

Less than two minutes later, Tyler Randell tried to energize his team with a fight against Vaive, but Providence was kept off of the board.

Brady Skjei added his first professional goal on a five-hole slapper from the heart of the slot to make it 3-0 Hartford with 13:50 remaining in regulation. Providence finally scored on a two-man advantage to beat Danis for the first time this season. Steve Eminger scored with a booming shot from the left point at 7:24. However, the P-Bruins were unable to net another against Danis, while Tyler Brown tossed one into an empty net for the Wolf Pack with 28.8 seconds left.

With the win, Hartford leap-frogged the Bruins in the Eastern Conference, taking fifth place.

The Bruins will start the last weekend of the regular season with a home game against the Worcester Sharks at 7:05pm on Friday.
