Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Me. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (43-23-3-4) took the wind out of the Portland Pirates (37-27-7-2) sails for the second straight night, winning 3-1 at the Cross Insurance Arena Sunday evening. The Penguins were holding on to a 3-0 lead until the third period when Brendan Shinnimin spoiled the shutout for goalie Jeff Zatkoff.

The Penguins notched a couple of goals in the first frame to gain an early lead. Andrew Ebbett scored the first one, a short-handed goal at 15:16, assisted by Josh Archibald. Scott Wilson scored the second, a power play goal at 17:04, assisted by Ebbett and Bryan Rust.

The Penguins were able to hold their lead through the second period and added another goal at 7:53 in the third off the stick of Carter Rowney, assisted by Dominik Uher and Nick D'Agostino.

The Pirates got a 5-on-3 man advantage thanks to a hooking call and a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct on Steven Shamanski at 9:53, but they were unable to convert. Soon after the Wilkes-Barre penalties came to an end, Shinnimin scored for Portland at 12:32, assisted by Justin Hodgman and Lucas Lessio.

Mike McKenna (26-17-6) started in net for the Pirates, saving 24 of 27 shots. Jeff Zatkoff (16-14-4) manned the net for the Penguins, stopping 29 of 30 shots.

The Pirates head to Manchester on Friday, April 17 for their final game of the regular season against the Monarchs. The game will be played at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:00 p.m. They will then host the Providence Bruins for the final regular season home game on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. It will be fan appreciation night and tickets are buy-on-get-one-half-off.
