Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced forward Daniel Sprong has been assigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from his junior club, the Charlottetown Islanders (QMJHL).

The first Dutch native drafted by an NHL club when Pittsburgh took him 46th overall in the 2015 draft, Sprong appeared in 18 games with Pittsburgh earlier in the season as an 18-year-old, tallying two goals.

Sprong, now 19, earned 16 goals and 30 assists for 46 points in 33 games with Charlottetown this season. He also added 15 points (4G-11A) in 12 Québec Major Junior Hockey League playoff games this year.

This will not be Sprong's first stint in Northeastern Pennsylvania. After moving from Amsterdam, Netherlands to North America when he was 8-years-old, Sprong became a USA Hockey U14 National Champion in his lone season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights in 2012.

The next Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins home game is tomorrow, Wednesday, Apr. 20, the first in a Calder Cup Playoffs best-of-five first round series with the Providence Bruins.

Individual playoff tickets are now on sale in addition to postseason ticket packages. With the purchase of a postseason ticket package, fans will receive a $6 food/merchandise voucher for every home game in the playoffs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton fans can secure their seats for every home game on the Cup run by contacting the Penguins directly at (570) 208-7367.

Individual game tickets for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton home playoff games can be purchased at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza box office, through all Ticketmaster outlets, or by contacting the Penguins directly at (570) 208-7367.
