Dan Bylsma named assistant coach

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Dan Bylsma has been hired as an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He will serve as an assistant to Brad Shaw, who returns for his third season as head coach of the American Hockey League club.
Bylsma, 34, joins the coaching ranks after playing 12 professional seasons, including nine years in the National Hockey League with Anaheim and Los Angeles between 1995-96 and 2003-04.
In his 429 regular-season NHL games, including 209 with Anaheim, Bylsma recorded 62 points with 19 goals and 43 assists and registered 184 penalty minutes.
Bylsma finished his playing career with Cincinnati last season, scoring three goals and three assists with 53 penalty minutes in 36 games. He also appeared in eight playoff games with Cincinnati, recording a goal and an assist.
The penalty-killing specialist was originally drafted by Winnipeg in the sixth round (109th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons (1988-89 to 1991-92) at Bowling Green State University prior to beginning his professional career in 1992-93.
One of the most active community members in Anaheim franchise history, the native of Grand Haven, Michigan is involved in several charitable causes, including his own Dan Bylsma Foundation. He has written four books with his father, Jay, aimed at assisting athletes and their families with responsibilities that accompany participating in team sports. Bylsma is also active with the Orange County Rescure Mission and ChildrenÂ’s Hospital of Orange County.
The Mighty Ducks open training camp September 29 at Cincinnati Gardens.
