Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins announced today that left wing Andy Hilbert and center Patrice Bergeron have signed AHL contracts and will play with the team during the upcoming 2004-05 regular season.
"Andy and Patrice are two players that we expect to make significant contributions to our team," said head coach Scott Gordon. "They each have excellent offensive skills and instincts, but more importantly, they are both strong competitors. Patrice had an outstanding season a rookie last year, and played well beyond his age. Andy, of course, is well known to our fans for his talents. We look forward to having them in our lineup."
Bergeron, a 19-year-old native of Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, enters his second professional season. He had an outstanding rookie season in 2003-04, notching 16-23-39 totals and 22 PIM in 71 games with the Boston Bruins. At 18 years old, the 6'1", 190-pound Bergeron was the youngest player in the NHL last season. He was Boston's second pick, 45th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Hilbert, a 23-year-old native of Howell, Michigan, enters his fourth professional season out of the University of Michigan. He missed the first 37 games of the 2003-04 season due to a groin injury sustained during training camp, and returned to action on January 10, 2004. He had 3-5-8 totals and 20 PIM in 19 games with Providence, and two goals and 9 PIM in 18 games with the Boston Bruins. Hilbert also had one goal in five playoff games with Boston.
Hilbert is tied for 11th on the P-Bruins' franchise career scoring list with 64-67-131 totals in 155 games from 2001-04. He also ranks sixth in goals, with 64. Hilbert was named to the 2002-03 AHL All-Rookie Team after tying for fourth among league rookies with 26-27-53 totals in 72 games. He followed that season up with 35-35-70 totals in 64 games in 2002-03, tying for third in AHL goal scoring. He represented Providence at the 2002 and 2003 AHL All-Star Classics. Hilbert, who was Boston's third pick, 37th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, has 3-3-6 totals and 18 PIM in 38 career NHL games with Boston.
